Virgin Media (O2) has announced that support for BBC iPlayer will cease on its legacy TiVo set-top boxes starting 23rd July 2025. Customers are being offered an alternative upgrade.

Customers of Virgin Media who still use legacy TiVo set-top boxes for their pay TV services have received notifications that BBC iPlayer will no longer be supported on July 23, 2025. This change is part of the gradual phase-out of older hardware, which has seen a reduction in features over recent years. Virgin Media is providing an upgrade to their newer TV360 platform, which continues to support iPlayer, but customers can choose to keep their current TiVo boxes with the understanding that they may eventually become obsolete. The transition reflects the shifting focus towards more modern streaming-compatible devices, ensuring users have access to ongoing services through updated hardware. Overall, this move symbolizes the end of an era for some Virgin Media subscribers but aligns with the broader industry trend of retiring legacy technology.
