Brendan Carr Discusses Fiber Expansion on Visit to Sioux Falls

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr visited Midco's Sioux Falls sites to review fiber network improvements and meet local crews.

During his visit to Sioux Falls, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr participated in various field activities, including climbing a bucket truck to lash new aerial fiber and running a conduit drill on Lobelia Street for new fiber lines. This trip highlighted Midco’s ongoing efforts to extend fiber optic infrastructure into residential neighborhoods, supporting the city’s digital growth.

The visit included discussions with Midco’s leadership about investments in the Fiber Forward network, advancing rural connectivity, and workforce development. Chairman Carr emphasized the importance of infrastructure upgrades and praised the hardworking field teams for their role in expanding high-speed internet across the country.

“We are excited to host Chairman Carr and his team in Sioux Falls because our community embodies how investments in leading technology can positively impact lives,” said Midco President Ben Dold. “Expanding fiber connectivity enhances quality of life and fosters economic growth.”

Throughout the tour, Chairman Carr expressed appreciation for the crews’ efforts and reiterated the FCC’s commitment to supporting infrastructure expansion, aiming to streamline network buildouts for field technicians nationwide. He noted that Sioux Falls holds special significance as the place where he climbed his first tower, symbolizing ongoing progress in connectivity initiatives.

Midco’s leadership highlighted the community’s enthusiasm for technological advancement and the significance of field workers facing challenging conditions to implement these improvements. The trip underscored the importance of collaboration between government and private sectors to achieve next-generation connectivity goals.
