On July 9, 2025, Wildanet revealed that it has successfully extended its fibre broadband service to over 10,000 homes and businesses in rural Cornwall. This milestone is part of their involvement in the UK government’s £5 billion Project Gigabit, aiming to enhance connectivity in underserved areas.
The company’s efforts are supported by key government contracts obtained through three separate agreements, collectively valued at £77 million. These contracts focus on deploying gigabit-capable broadband across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, with phases covering South West and Mid-Cornwall regions.
So far, the project has seen over 2,500 km of fibre cable installed, along with civil engineering work and the construction of 1,622 new access chambers. The initiative is also marking the commencement of a significant third phase, which involves infrastructure installation in East Cornwall.
Telecoms Minister Chris Bryant emphasized the importance of this milestone, highlighting how reliable, fast broadband can transform rural communities. Wildanet’s Chief Strategy & Technology Officer, Justin Clark, expressed his enthusiasm about connecting more communities and fostering economic growth through better digital infrastructure.
In addition to expanding the network, Wildanet has launched a new 2 Gbps broadband package for £85 per month, which offers unlimited data and includes free installation. The service provides high upload speeds of up to 400 Mbps, catering to the needs of residential and business users alike.
This project demonstrates a significant step toward bridging the digital divide in Cornwall, ensuring that geographic challenges do not hinder access to modern high-speed internet. Wildanet’s ongoing commitment aims to support social inclusion, economic development, and improved quality of life for all residents.
