Harmonic has achieved a groundbreaking milestone at the CableLabs Interop event, demonstrating a 14 Gbps downstream throughput using DOCSIS 4.0 technology. The company’s innovative cOS broadband platform and Pebble-2 Remote PHY Device played a crucial role in surpassing previous benchmarks.

At the recent CableLabs Interop event, Harmonic showcased its latest advancements in broadband technology by setting a new industry record of 14 Gbps downstream throughput with DOCSIS 4.0. The demonstration involved Harmonic’s cOS virtualized broadband platform, which is the first to unify both Full Duplex (FDX) and Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) modes of DOCSIS 4.0, providing flexible deployment options for operators.

The event featured the Pebble-2 DOCSIS 4.0 Remote PHY Device (RPD), achieving speeds that significantly exceeded the earlier benchmark of 10 Gbps. This milestone highlights Harmonic’s leadership in broadband innovation and the company’s commitment to supporting multigigabit connectivity needs.

Doug Jones of CableLabs emphasized the importance of interoperability testing in advancing DOCSIS technology, noting that collaboration among vendors accelerates deployment readiness. Harmonic’s continual participation in these tests reinforces the industry’s progress towards widespread adoption of high-speed broadband services.

Asaf Matatyaou, SVP of Product at Harmonic, highlighted that this achievement demonstrates the readiness of their cOS platform to facilitate DOCSIS 4.0 rollouts, offering symmetric multigigabit speeds akin to fiber networks. Harmonic’s solutions are currently deployed in over 33 million CPE devices worldwide, serving major operators across continents.

The milestone underscores Harmonic’s ongoing role as a leader in cable broadband equipment, virtualized CMTS, and Distributed Access Architecture (DAA), solidifying its position in the market according to Dell’Oro Group.
