EE has expanded its Wi-Fi Enhancer service by introducing Stream Mode, a feature designed to optimize the performance of specific applications for users.

British service provider EE has announced an upgrade to its Wi-Fi Enhancer service by adding Stream Mode, a feature aimed at prioritizing certain applications to ensure seamless performance across the household. This new setting is accessible through the EE app and can be toggled to enhance user experience for activities like streaming, gaming, and remote work.

According to Luciano Oliveira, EE’s Director of Product, Home & TV, “Whether it’s binge-watching boxsets or watching live sports, Stream Mode puts streaming apps in the fast lane, so customers can enjoy uninterrupted entertainment, even when the whole household is online.” The mode includes two specific configurations: Game Mode and Work Mode.

Game Mode is tailored to give priority to gaming consoles and gaming applications, ensuring a smooth gaming experience without lag. Meanwhile, Work Mode is designed to support video calls and collaboration tools, supporting remote workers in maintaining a stable connection during their productive hours.

EE, a part of BT Group’s Consumer business arm, recognizes the increasing importance of Wi-Fi technology as a foundation for entertainment, education, and work activities. The provider’s efforts align with developments like network slicing demonstrated by GFiber and Nokia, which allows bandwidth to be segmented and allocated with customized attributes, ensuring critical apps have the necessary resources.

Beyond application prioritization, there are ongoing investments in Wi-Fi technology, such as the expected wider rollout of Wi-Fi 7. Despite being available in the U.S. for over a year, adoption remains under 2%, signaling significant potential for growth and improved user experience. Tools like RouteThis’s AI-driven Self-Install also aim to educate consumers about optimizing home networks, facilitating broader coverage and better performance.

Overall, EE’s Stream Mode signifies a step forward in enhancing home Wi-Fi usability, catering to the increasing demand for reliable internet connectivity in daily life.
